8 May 2006 - The British Steel Collection

The British Steel Collection, after being stored for more than fifteen years at the Archives, is finally receiving some much deserved attention. David Parsons has been employed by the University of Teesside to conduct a study into the size and extent of the collection. The results will be used to support a Heritage Lottery bid which is being put together by Joan Heggie, our new Treasurer, and Barry Doyle of Teesside University. If the bid is successful, the collection can be catalogued properly and material relating to Dorman Long, Bell Brothers and other Teesside steelworks can be made available to the public.

It is also hoped that a new website dedicated to the collection will be created. This will attract more visitors to the Archives, perhaps from all over the world.

Keep your fingers crossed and watch this space for further news!
